Kenya
Kenya is a country that is in eastern Africa and has approximately 33 million people. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the east; Somalia, Ethiopia, and the Sudan to the north; Uganda is to the west; and Tanzania to the south. Nairobi is the capital of Kenya. When people visit Africa to go on safari, usually they will go to Kenya or Tanzania since there are huge national forests in both countries which includes the Serengeti. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, lies in Tanzania bordering Kenya. It is easily accessible from both nations.
In Kenya, due to the effectiveness of past missionaries and evangelists, over 13 million people are Evangelical Christians or 36% of the population. In contrast, America has 32% of the population who profess themselves as Evangelical Christians. Kenya has the highest concentration of Christians in Africa and has nearly as many Evangelical Christians as all of Europe combined. Nairobi, the capital has 80% that confess Christianity.
However, there are areas of Kenya that need prayer. Please pray for the protection and preservation of these Christians who have converted to Christ. Muslims from two Muslim countries to the north, Somalia and Sudan are trying to take their Christian neighbors of Kenya and Ethiopia. As it stands now, 8% of the Kenyan population has been converted to Islam. 11% of Kenya is still following traditional African worship. Please pray for the 11 people groups (parts of various tribes) who have yet to be reached with the Gospel due to the fact that they live in remote regions of Kenya. Kenya's unemployment is over 40%. Pray for better economic conditions and for blessings to pour out over our Christian brothers in Kenya. Also, please pray about the current strife taking place there due to questions about the recent presidential elections.
